The Durango Arts Center presents the exhibit Leonard Davies: The Joys of Painting as a Pastime January 9 - February 28, 2026 in the Barbara Conrad Gallery. Davies retired from a distinguished career as a civil rights attorney, and began oil painting at the age of 70. His show features southwest landscapes, and is free to the public Tuesday - Saturday, Noon - 6 pm. An opening reception will take place from 5-7 pm, Friday, January 9.
A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death; it is not a grief support group. The Death Café offers an accessible, respectful and confidential space where strangers gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Death Cafés are open to, and respectful of, people of all communities and belief systems. The model was developed by Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid, based on the ideas of Bernard Crettaz. To find out more visit: deathcafe.com. Your facilitator, Lola Montano, has been hosting the Bayfield Death Café since October 2021. Lola is a hospice nurse at Mercy Hospice House, and a trained death doula. Lola volunteers for hospice and the NODA (No One Dies Alone) program at the hospital. She is passionate about demystifying death, in order to help people prepare for the end.
The Durango Public Library will host a Death Cafe at 4PM on Monday, January 26th.The objective is to increase awareness of death, with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.

This is Scrabble with a centennial Snowdown twist—where “winning” is spelled clearly. Come spell, sip, and argue your way to victory at Union Social House Tuesday January 27th at 5:30 PM. Players compete in a series of timed rounds, with 6 tables of 5 players each. One winner declared per table!
A pinball smorgasbord of mini events help for fun and prizes. Games include split flippers (1 team shares right and left flippers), stall ball (a conga line of unlimited players lines up to “stall the ball and then quickly get back in line), and the highest score. Come out and enjoy some casual but fun pinball events at the Union Social House.
