Season Opening: Aztec's Six Old Soreheads Reception, Reunion & Program

Season Opening: Aztec's Six Old Soreheads Reception, Reunion & Program

The Aztec Museum & Pioneer Village kicks off the season at 1PM on Saturday, April 26th with the "Six Old Soreheads Reunion & Reception." This event is free and open to the public. Details are at aztecmuseum.org.

Step back in time with us as we kick off the museum's 2025 season and share how Six Old Soreheads came to Aztec in 1969; the ensuing controversies over the years; the yeasayers and the naysayers; and the charming history and nostalgia surrounding the Old Soreheads and this special hometown tradition!

The museum is located on Main Avenue in Historic Downtown Aztec featuring 15 historic buildings and thousands of artifacts on 3.5-acres. The museum will open at 1pm for guests to enjoy. Refreshments will be served by the Event Shed in the Pioneer Village and include goodies from local vintage cookbooks!

The program begins at 1:30pm with "Aztec's Six Old Soreheads: A Brief History of Boosterism & Branding Small Town America" presented by Joan Monninger, the museum's executive director. This brief program will be followed by a lively Panel Discussion featuring Six of Aztec's Old Soreheads and audience Q&A. We welcome ALL Aztec Soreheads and their families to this reunion to share and enjoy Sorehead memories and memorabilia.

The museum will announce the return of the Six Old Soreheads fundraiser for 2025 benefiting the museum. This fundraiser runs till December and is YOUR chance to become an Old Sorehead while supporting the museum's mission to collect, preserve and share the rich history of the communities we serve!

Additional parking available in the municipal lot off Park Avenue by the Splash Pad. Enter the Pioneer Village through the west gate behind the museum grounds.
