Lake City

In many of Colorado's rural mountain towns, basic services can be few and far between. It especially impacts older residents. Limited social programming, or even the absence of a place to gather, can leave seniors isolated. Locals in Lake City are working to change that.

For nearly thirty years, Railroad Car 211 transported people and goods to and from the remote mountain town of Lake City until the service stopped in 1933. Now, this important piece of regional transportation history is in Durango for restoration.

Lake City in southwestern Colorado is a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking and fly fishing. But now, a new sport is taking off in town: powerlifting. The town held its first powerlifting competition in late September.
