The beginning of the Lake City side of the Alpine Loop snakes along the shores of Lake San Cristobal before heading up Cinnamon Pass.

Heavy monsoon rains are causing mudslides across the region. The popular Alpine Loop between the towns of Silverton, Lake City, and Ouray was partially closed for two days earlier this week because of slides.

Twenty people were stranded overnight while Hinsdale County crews cleared the road. Other slides closed a state highway.

Laura Palmisano with KVNF Radio spoke to Hinsdale County Administrator Sandy Hines about the slides. The Interview opens with Hines talking about mudslides on Highway 149 near Lake City.
