With Candace Nadon, associate English professor, Fort Lewis College. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the factors necessary to make a great first page of a novel, no matter the genre, and examine those factors in action. We’ll also spend some time writing and workshopping our own first pages, so please come with your novel ideas. This session is designed not only to help you begin the kind of novel that readers can’t put down but inspire you to submit to the Durango Public Library’s November First Page Contest! HIIT stands for High Intense Interval Training. Each class will consist of a demonstration, warm-up, and 10-12 stations where we will focus on a specific body group per station. We will rotate through 3 rounds with a short break between each round. When the work out is over we cool down and stretch.
All equipment will be provided. These HIITs will be outside, please plan accordingly and bring your own water.
Kids, families, and caregivers, join us for special activities each week! Unleash your creativity: tie-dye, paint, and create!
NOTE: Open to all but younger children will need assistance with the projects. This is a drop-in event and participants may come and go as they please - no registration required. Interested teens are also welcome to come.
This program will be held in the library park, weather permitting.
ASL Learners Group at Sunnyside Library. Learn and practice American Sign Language communication. Discuss culture and etiquette. All levels of ability are welcome. Meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month.
The Durango Public Library will host a "Tenant Rights" talk at 5:30 on Monday, October 20th.

For children ages 2 to 4 and their caregivers. This program will inspire preschoolers to learn, move, sing and play in a supportive environment.
The Early Childhood Council of La Plata County and the Durango Public Library invite parents,caregivers, and their preschoolers to a free six-part workshop series focused onpreparing young children for kindergarten. Each session will explore important areas ofschool readiness, with hands-on activities that build early literacy, math, motor, andsocial-emotional skills.
The Community Foundation serving SW Colorado will host weekly Human Resource Power Hours, to cover everything nonprofits need to know to update and optimize their HR practices to meet the latest requirements.The Zoom meetings take place at noon on Tuesdays from September 9th through October 14th.swcommunityfoundation.org has details and registration.
The cost is $10/session or $50 for all 6. Attendees will be entered to win free HR services worth $500.

Health Without Barriers is a FREE 6-week family wellness program for families with teens ages 11 to 19. This program meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:45 PM, from September 9th through October 15th, at the Pine River Senior Center in Bayfield.
Program components include:Interactive health and wellness education for familiesHands-on cooking and nutrition classes (groceries provided to take home!)Physical activity sessions for teens and siblingsStress management and mindfulness trainingFamily support education for parents
The ENTIRE family is welcome - siblings of all ages can participate, and dinner is provided at every session. This is a collaborative program between Colorado State University Extension and CSU's Department of Human Development and Family Studies.
