Nissan of Durango, Walmart of Pagosa Springs and the La Plata County Detention Center are among the latest outbreaks of COVID-19 in the region. San Juan Basin Public Health Department is reporting that Nissan of Durango has 10 positive cases, including one fatality. The Walmart outbreak in Pagosa Springs, which was initially reported last week has grown to 13 cases. And, the La Plata County Detention Center has two new cases, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Brian Devine is the Response Deputy Incident Commander for COVID-19 at San Juan Basin Public Health Department. He says that the Delta variant is likely the cause of how quickly these outbreaks are spreading.

Continue to take the virus seriously, especially if you or your employees are unvaccinated. A contributing factor to these outbreaks being so large and growing as quickly as they did was gatherings of unvaccinated staff without any public health precautions. If you've gotten away with it for a little while, you're not going to get away with it in the presence of the Delta variant.

Devine says the health department is offering employer vaccination clinics in conjunction with their vaccine clinics being offered six days a week. Devine is also encouraging people to get tested if they are symptomatic or have been exposed to the virus.
