Restrictions for the San Juan go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16 and at 6:00 a.m. the same day for the tribe.
According to a news release from San Juan National Forest officials, the fire ban includes all lands within the forest system, including wildnerness areas. The order will remain in effect until rescinded, which usually happens later in the summer, after seasonal rains.
The Southern Ute Tribe is also enacting the same restrictions, according to an announcement on Tuesday.
**Update: June 15, 2021, 2:20 p.m.**
La Plata County also announced Tuesday that a Stage 1 ban will go into effect for unincorporated areas on Wednesday.
Under Stage 1 restrictions, all fires, campfires, stove fires, and charcoal grills are prohibited. Fires in sanctioned, Forest Service-provided grates and grills are still permitted. Restrictions are also applied to smoking and the use of chainsaws and blowtorches. See a full list of prohibited activities.
