Join SJMA and the Durango Astronomical Society for our second year of summer star party series located at SJMA’s Durango Nature Center!
All are welcome, amateur astronomers and enthusiasts alike, for a family friendly event discussing and observing our night skies – the moon, planets, star clusters, galaxies, and nebulas. Just before sunset, an expert from the Durango Astronomical Society will lead discussions on what we will be seeing that evening, providing informative backstories and fascinating fun facts about the night sky we see everyday. Each summer month will have slightly different focuses depending on that month’s night sky. All discussions will end with open telescope viewings and Q&A sessions. Join Mike Foster for periodic outings to look for and identify birds. Mike likes to share his knowledge of interesting facts about particular species, and discuss why birds are important.
Workout using your own body weight or light hand weights to work all the body parts! The free classes are always similar in style but always different moves to keep it fun and fresh. You’ll need a yoga mat & light hand weights. If you don’t have them, they are extras that can be used. Each class is around 35 min. long. Modifications are always available. It’s always a fun, upbeat, encouraging, and a great workout. Taught by Tammy Williams, certified fitness instructor. All ages and fitness levels are welcome! In honor of National Public Lands Day, Chimney Rock National Monument will waive admission fees on Saturday, September 27th.More information is at chimneyrockco.org.

Aztec Ruins National Monument invites the public to a National Public Lands Day Event, from 9 until 2 on Saturday, September 27th... including a preservation workshop and an invasive plant removal project. The day includes a free picnic lunch and a tour of the East Great House.Registration is required and details are at nps.gov/azru.
During the event, volunteers will participate in a preservation workshop. You'll learn to mix mortar, learn the technique of mortar repointing, and work alongside archaeologists, stonemasons and preservation crew members to do some of this important and ongoing preservation work on the great house walls.
The other component of the event involves working with Natural Resources staff to help remove invasive plant species from areas around the visitor trail and the Ancestral Puebloan great house. When lunch is over, you'll have the opportunity to take a Ranger-led tour of the Aztec East great house. This is an area that is usually closed to the public.
Each event participant will receive a Fee-Free coupon in recognition of their invaluable service to our nation's public lands. Each coupon entitles the recipient and their family or vehicle companions to one Fee-Free day at any participating federal recreation or visitor site within one calendar year.
