Singer-songwriter Rachel Garlin presents "The Ballad of Madelyne and Therese," an evening of story & song, at the Durango Arts Center on Sunday, March 1st. Doors open at 6:30 and the performance starts at 7. The evening features original songs and intimate storytelling as Garlin explores what happens when queer desire collides with 1940s conventions. Proceeds benefit the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund, a Mancos-based non-profit dedicated to increasing access to outdoor adventures for LGBTQ+ individuals. Tickets and details are at durangoarts.org.
Part concert, part one-person play, with recent showings in NYC and San Francisco, Garlin’s new work is coming for a one-night benefit at the Durango Arts Center.
Rachel Garlin (Writer & Lead Performer) is a San Francisco-based singer and songwriter who has been making music professionally for more than twenty years. Rachel has toured internationally, released nine independent albums, and been hailed by critics at the San Francisco Chronicle, Americana Highways, and Country Queer.
Rachel will be joined on stage by Mai Bloomfield, a Los Angeles-based cellist and singer-songwriter, as well as local musicians Jim Belcher on bass, Patrick Dressen on guitar and David Sachs on drums.
Proceeds to benefit the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund, a Mancos-based non-profit dedicated to increasing access to outdoor adventures for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals. The Adventure Fund was created in honor of Armida Huerta, who passed away in 2024. Armida led a life of adventure, was a gifted athlete, and worked at Alpacka Raft for 10 years.

The “No Secret Police in Durango” Petition Committee is gathering signatures of registered voters in the City of Durango through March 6, to place before City Council or Durango voters an ordinance that prohibits masking of law enforcement officers and requires visible identification. Workout using your own body weight or light hand weights to work all the body parts! The free classes are always similar in style but always different moves to keep it fun and fresh. You’ll need a yoga mat & light hand weights. If you don’t have them, they are extras that can be used. Each class is around 35 min. long. Modifications are always available. It’s always a fun, upbeat, encouraging, and a great workout. Taught by Tammy Williams, certified fitness instructor. All ages and fitness levels are welcome! The CARE Program is a FREE income-qualified energy efficiency program for homeowners and renters in Archuleta and La Plata Counties. Participants receive a free energy audit for their home and free efficiency upgrades such as insulation, air sealing measures and efficient lighting.
