The Southwest Colorado eSchool your free, LOCAL, accredited, rigorous, and flexible 6th-12th grade ONLINE school! We serve only the LOCAL districts including Dove Creek, Montezuma-Cortez, Mancos, Dolores, Durango, Silverton, Bayfield, Ignacio, and Archuleta. Our virtual, public school has been serving our community for over 14 years.

Total Archery Challenge, one of the top outdoor archery events in the U.S., is coming to Purgatory Resort in Durango, Colorado! From July 11–13, archers of all levels can take on 150+ life-sized 3D targets across multiple scenic mountain courses, including steep-angle and long-distance shots. Enjoy novelty shots with chances to win prizes (including a truck!), a kids’ range with dinosaur and zombie targets, outdoor gear vendors, food, and family fun. Dry camping is available on-site with pre-registration. Registration required for both participation and camping.

Mysteries of Chimney Rock Tour provides an in-depth discussion along the Great House Trail about the connection of Chimney Rock to the greater Chacon culture, the significance of the mesa-top Great House, and the day-to-day lives of the ancestral inhabitants of Chimney Rock.

Workout using your own body weight or light hand weights to work all the body parts! The free classes are always similar in style but always different moves to keep it fun and fresh. You’ll need a yoga mat & light hand weights. If you don’t have them, they are extras that can be used. Each class is around 35 min. long. Modifications are always available. It’s always a fun, upbeat, encouraging, and a great workout. Taught by Tammy Williams, certified fitness instructor. All ages and fitness levels are welcome! Students step back in time and head back to school for a day in the Pioneer Village's Koogler One-Room School House. This unique experience simulates a day at school during Aztec's pioneer era with Reading, Writing and 'Rithmetic. We add in craft activities and plenty of old-fashioned fun & games! Students wear pinafore aprons or suspenders provided by the museum to help set the stage for a day in the past they'll remember long into the future!

Due to space limitations, each session is capped at 10 kids, ages 6-13. The nostalgic day runs 9:15am-3pm and includes lunch in a take home souvenir lunch pail and a graduation certificate at day's end.

Jessica Sledzinski is our costumed teacher for the day. Jessica is the principal at Park Avenue Elementary in Aztec, a member of the museum board of directors, and a museum volunteer. She has an extensive background in art, history and education. This is her 3rd season offering this immersive student experience using a curriculum she developed for this program that is typical of the time period and age/skill appropriate. She has an additional educator/volunteer on hand to assist and ensure safety and fun for our scholars!

San Juan Mountains Association will host weekly Friday Nature Walks, starting July 4th and continuing through the end of August. Those interested should meet at the Andrews Lake parking area at 10AM. More information is a sjma.org.

A crew of volunteer naturalists can enlighten you while on a pleasant stroll in the San Juan Mountains.

The fun, fact-filled nature hike is moderate. We’ll be moving at a “walking” pace for around 1-2 miles. Wear walking shoes and clothing layers suitable for the mountain weather.

The 71st Annual Four Corners Gem and Mineral Show takes place Friday through Sunday (July 11th - July 13th) at La Plata County Fairgrounds
Featuring over 60 local and international dealers, along with food trucks and kids activities. Children under 12 receive free admission. More information and volunteer opportunities are at durangorocks.org.

A silent auction with over 600 items up for bid, hourly and daily. Hours are 10-6 Friday and Saturday, 10-4 on Sunday. Admission is $5 per day for visitors over 12 years of age. Volunteers get free admission for the entire weekend

The Great House Tour goes to the top of the mesa ridge for a 360-degree panoramic view of the landscape and a close-up of the two pinnacles with stops along the way to learn about the ancient Puebloan structures.

The Friends of the Durango Public Library’s summer book sale takes place on Friday and Saturday, July 11th and 12th. The sale runs from 10 until 4 both days. Members early admission is at 9:30.

We have thousands of books on every subject. Paperbacks are 2 for a dollar and most hardback and trade paperback books are a dollar apiece. All proceeds benefit the library.
