National Mammography Day
National Mammography Day
Cancer Support Community Southwest Colorado reminds the public that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Friday, October 20th is National Mammography Day. Cancersupportswco.org has more information.
A mammogram is a low-dose breast x-ray that screens for breast cancer. 1 in 8 women, or anyone with breasts, will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
Women are recommended to begin annual mammograms at age 40. Those who are at high risk for breast cancer are recommended to schedule starting at the age of 30. Talk to your primary care provider, your OBGYN, or call Mercy Breast Care Center. Most insurance plans cover mammograms with no out-of-pocket cost.
Cancer Support Community Southwest Colorado operates a Breast Cancer Support Group out of its Durango office, and our team is here to support you with healthcare information, resources, and social & emotional support. Visit our Community Calendar at cancersupportswco.org to learn more.
