Full Moon Hike at Canyons of the Ancients

Full Moon Hike at Canyons of the Ancients

The San Juan Mountains Association will host a Full Moon Hike at Sand Canyon. The event takes place at 7PM on Saturday, July 20th.
Details are available at sjma.org.

Educators from Canyons of the Ancients National Monument will host the hike. Attendees will learn about how the moon impacts wildlife and humans alike. This trail is usually closed after sunset, so this is a rare chance to see it under a different light. From sunset to moonrise, hikers will visit several ancient pueblos and discover the wildlife that calls this special place home.

The hike is moderate, 1-2 miles. Wear walking shoes and clothing layers suitable for the evening weather, bring a backpack with your water, snacks, camera, and binoculars. Bring hiking poles if you like using them. Don’t forget your headlamp or flashlight!
