Robert Gomez: Ethereal Indie-Folk

Robert Gomez.
Robert Gomez.

Robert Gomez's sweetly layered, melodic songs draw together elements of folk and rock, grounded by a strong pop sensibility. An accomplished guitarist, Gomez got his start in instrumental jazz before shifting to ethereal indie-folk for 2005's Etherville.

Signed to his label at the suggestion of Midlake's members — the two acts are both based in Denton, Tex. — the former traveling-circus performer released Brand New Towns in March. The disc finds Gomez experimenting with intricate, almost baroque arrangements that never obscure his sweet-natured songwriting.
