KSUT welcomes local bluegrass aficionado JJ Hirt to the airwaves with the debut of her show Down Home Girl, featuring bluegrass and acoustic music Monday nights from 7-9.
Born and raised in North Carolina, JJ first moved to Durango in 1999, honing her DJ skills on KDUR with her show Grandma's Feather Bed. After meeting her husband at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, they started a family on the front range, finding their way home to Durango in 2014. She returned to KDUR to host Down Home Girl, then moved to early mornings to co-host Wakeman and the Baker. JJ also joined the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown board of directors and currently serves as their first female board president.
A voting member of the International Bluegrass Music Association, avid live music fan, bluegrass connoisseur, and public radio supporter, JJ brings KSUT a fresh look at bluegrass and acoustic music - from Bill Monroe to Billy Strings. "I'm thrilled to be able to spread the music of the bluegrass community throughout southwest Colorado and northwest New Mexico. There are so many interesting things happening in the world of bluegrass that go beyond the old standards but still honors those traditions. I'm excited to share this music through Down Home Girl on KSUT."
