Major Lunar Standstill at Chimney Rock National Monument
Chimney Rock National Monument will host a viewing of the Major Lunar Standstill astronomical event on Saturday, October 11th.
Events will include talks on astronomy, archaeology, and Native culture, Native American music, stargazing with telescopes, and a live-streamed view of the Moon rising between the pinnacles. Entry begins at 8:30PM.
Reservations are required. Chimneyrockco.org has tickets and details.
The Moon dramatically rises between Companion Rock and Chimney Rock, a phenomenon the Ancient Puebloans likely built ceremonial sites to observe over a thousand years ago.
Check-in: 8:30–9:15 PM at the Visitor Center
Presentations begin: 9:30 PM
Live-streamed moonrise: 10:20 PM
Tickets: $25 adults, $12 ages 5–12, free under 5. Reservations required through Recreation.gov (877-444-6777). Seating is limited; reservations close 12 hours before. Walk-ins only if space allows.

Dress warmly and bring blankets/cushions for comfort.
No alcohol, drugs, or smoking/vaping.
Certified service dogs only.
Weather may cause modifications or cancellations. Refunds only if the entire event is canceled.
