In honor of his 80th birthday on May 14th, long-time La Plata County resident Robert Winslow is inviting the community to join him in giving back, with a fundraiser benefiting the San Juan Mountains Association and La Plata County Humane Society. He will hike the Sky Steps to Fort Lewis College 8 times and community members are encouraged to pledge donations. More information is at lpchumanesociety.org.

La Plata County Humane Society: Provides shelter, care, and advocacy for animals in need, supporting humane education, adoption, and efforts to reduce pet overpopulation.

About Robert Winslow: Robert has devoted his life to the natural world—as a hiker, teacher, and photographer. His achievements include:

Thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail in 1971 (the 36th person ever to do so).

Teaching wilderness studies and outdoor education at Idaho State University.

Leading international photography tours to Africa, the Galápagos, Yellowstone, and more.

Section-hiking the Colorado Trail at age 77 (2021–2022).
