. Sleep

NPR's Joe Palca reports that researchers at Stanford University have proposed a new theory for why we sleep. Although many theories have been put forth in the past to explain the purpose of sleep, none has been proven. The new theory proposes that sleep is necessary to replenish energy supplies for brain cells.
