The comedienne, who appears in Durango this Friday, dishes on cat enzymes, T.S.A. patdowns, and her special brand of observational comedy.
We reached Paula Poundstone by telephone in her walk-in closet. She'd taken refuge there, using it as a serviceable place from which to avoid her 14 cats and muse on the Dick van Dyke Show.
“So,” we asked Poundstone, “why 14 cats, instead of maybe 12. Or three?”
The answer lies in Paula Poundstone's eccentricity. She says she's had a hard time resisting bringing home more kittens. But she's working on it, despite their adorableness.
She still gets stirrings, but has to balance that with the knowledge that one day, her cats “will ruin everything.”

She remembers her last appearance in the Durango area. The wine and cheese soiree. The clay jewelry. The paintings with the earthy tones.
