San Juan County is reporting over 400 positive cases of the virus in just two days last week. According to the New Mexico Department of Health, San Juan County has the second highest number of COVID-19 deaths of any county in the state, just behind Bernalillo. While positive cases seem to be plateauing across much of New Mexico, San Juan County's numbers are not following that same trend.

The county's largest hospital, San Juan Regional Medical Center, is reporting they have a seven day average of over 17% positivity rate in testing. The Department of Health is showing just over half of all eligible residents in San Juan County are fully vaccinated as of last week. With today being Indigenous People's Day, the New Mexico Department of Health says there will be no case counts released today, and they will resume reporting tomorrow. For KSUT News, I'm Sarah Flower.
