EFFECTIVE JULY 13, 2012: Fire restrictions are lifted at higher elevations and eased at lower elevations of the San Juan National Forest, as follows:

Higher Elevation (shown as Zone 2 on maps): Fire restrictions for higher elevations of the San Juan National Forest, which have been receiving more moisture, are hereby lifted; however, visitors are still asked to remain safety conscious in these areas.

Lower Elevation (shown as Zone 1 on maps):

Fires allowed only in fire rings or grates at developed campgrounds (Exception: petroleum-fueled stoves);

Smoking allowed only inside a vehicle, building or 3’-wide cleared area;

Chainsaws, generators, mowers, pumps, etc. must have approved, working spark arresters;

NO welding or torches with an open flame;

NO explosives (fireworks, blasting caps, etc).

Maps showing the specific boundaries for Zones 1 & 2 will be available at National Forest offices in Pagosa Springs, Bayfield, Durango, Dolores and Silverton, and posted online at www.fs.usda.gov/sanjuan.
