Progress on the Air Park fire and two new fire starts

Firefighters continued to make good progress on the Air Park fire and yesterday’s fire starts. There were only two new fire starts today, one in Montezuma County and one in Archuleta County.

La Plata County Fires:

Pinyon 2 Fire: The fire is now 85% contained and the acreage has dropped back to 23 acres. Firefighters hope to have the fire fully contained by 4:00 PM on Friday. The fire is located west of Hwy. 140 and southwest of Red Mesa on Southern Ute lands, off County Road 106. One of the crews that arrived this afternoon was diverted over to the Archuleta Fire.

Air Park Fire:  Now 90% contained and full containment is expected by July 29.

Archuleta County Fires:

Archuleta Fire: Contained at 2:00 PM at 6.1 acres.

King Valley Fire:Contained at 1:00 PM at .5 acre.

One new fire on private lands; no details available.

Montezuma County Fires:

Morefield Ridge:This new fire was reported at 4:00 PM today and was about 2 acres in size. A helicopter was making bucket drops until dark and firefighters were on scene.
