Words and Music on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join KSUT for special programming Monday January 16 in honor of Dr. King.

At 9:00 a.m., hear a Peace Talks Radio special, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Path to Nonviolence.

King's journey to a philosophy of nonviolence and his lasting legacy as a peace proponent is recalled in interviews with his daughter, the late Yolanda King, and one of King's top colleagues in the civil rights movement, Dr. Dorothy Cotton.

At 10:00 a.m., the program American Routes reflects on the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. in words and music. Host Nick Spitzer speaks with those who knew Dr. King, from music scholar Albert Murray and historian Julian Bond to musicians Harry Belafonte and Mable John.

Also, Mississippi riverboat captain Doc Hawley shares a unique memory of Memphis. Plus songs of freedom, deliverance and hope to commemorate this holiday weekend.

Our special MLK Day programming preempts the Monday Morning Blend. Regular programming returns at noon with Here & Now, and we'll present more music from the Civil Rights Era from 1 to 4 on the KSUT Afternoon Blend.
