Haunted House
Barry Crain

Martin Atkins, a drummer, producer and professor, weaves the terrifying tale of any musicians' personal horror in this spooky Halloween installment of The Martin Atkins Minute, an occasional series in our All Songs +1 podcast.

This week, Atkins is trapped inside a nightmare that has claimed the lives and careers of so many musicians who came before him. The temptations, the distractions, the legalese, oh, the terror! And just when he thinks he's finally safe, the torment begins again, creating an endless, frightening cycle.

In 1988, a determined Bob Boilen started showing up on NPR's doorstep every day, looking for a way to contribute his skills in music and broadcasting to the network. His persistence paid off, and within a few weeks he was hired, on a temporary basis, to work for All Things Considered. Less than a year later, Boilen was directing the show and continued to do so for the next 18 years.
