World Cafe Moves To Weeknights

David Spowart

A primary public radio outlet for music discovery, The World Cafe, has a new host, and a new place on KSUT's schedule, beginning June 19 – weeknights from 10 to midnight. Canadian journalist Talia Schlanger,  took over as host from the retiring David Dye in early April.

World Cafe serves up a blend of blues, rock, world, folk, and alternative country, live performances, and intimate interviews. The program features new and significant music and the artists who create it and is produced by WXPN in Philadelphia. KSUT has been a World Cafe affiliate for over 15 years. Program director Ken Brott said, "with the popularity of KSUT's Morning and Afternoon Blends, expanding comparable programming like the World Cafe across weeknights, is a great fit."

Schlanger has been a contributing host and producer of World Cafe since October. Before that, the Toronto native worked as a radio and TV journalist for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and, earlier, as an actress on Canadian shows like Strange Days at Blake Holsey High and Degrassi: The Next Generation. On stage, she was cast in the first U.S. national tour of Green Day's American Idiot musical.
