Gov. Jared Polis has urged schools to reopen since May, but as school comes back to session in Colorado, about half the state's K-12 students are attending districts that are starting online. School districts received vague and conflicting guidance from the state and were under intense political pressure from all sides. When coronavirus cases rose in the summer, school districts faced a kind of snow day decision from hell.

Today is the first day of school for Fort Lewis College. Last week, the college conducted over 1500 COVID-19 diagnostic tests, four of which came back positive for the virus. KSUT’s Sarah Flower speaks with Liane Jollon from San Juan Basin Public Health about how those numbers are counted in our region.

State of Colorado

Governor Polis spoke to reporter Sarah Flower in an exclusive interview regarding schools reopening, funding public health, local Indian Tribes' response, and other statewide issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

KSUT’s Sarah Flower met via Zoom earlier this week with school administrators from Cortez, Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio to discuss each district's approach to reopening their schools.
