HD4:  A new fire in Zabel Canyon in the HD Mountains on the San Juan National Forest, Columbine Ranger District. There are reports of spotting ¼ mile in front of the fire. There is currently one crew and one engine on the fire. Two SEATs, a helitanker, and heavy air tanker have been ordered to assist firefighters. The lightning-caused fire is estimated at 5-10 acres in size and no structures are threatened.

Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch

Lightner Fire:  The fire is burning on BLM and State lands 3.5 miles west of Durango. Estimated at 90 acres and 75% containment. One 20-person crew and one water tender are mopping up 1 chain (66 feet) in from perimeter. Some light smoke coming from interior. Residents may use County Road 208 but are asked to drive slowly and watch for fire traffic. Updates and photos are posted at www.inciweb.org.

MANCOS, Colo. - Fire managers will continue planned burnout operations on the Weber Fire today to burn fuels between the indirect containment lines and the active northeast edge of the fire. Yesterday's burnout operations were very successful; favorable conditions allowed firefighters to complete an estimated 500 acres. Team C Incident Commander Joe Lowe stated this morning: "We have completed a great deal of work and our job now is to finish strong and get residents back home safely."

MANCOS, Colo. - Today, around 1 p.m., fire managers initiated the planned burnout operations on the Weber Fire. The goal was to burn the fuels between the indirect containment lines and the fire perimeter on the north edge safely. This tactic is being used with the expectation of keeping the fire from making a run and crossing the containment line and Highway 160.

Suppression resources assigned to the Little Sand Fire attacked two new fires Friday that resulted from Thursday's lightning storms in the area. One fire east of the Little Sand Fire near the confluence of O'Neal Creek and the Piedra River was contained at less than one acre by firefighters and one engine. A second fire was contained at six acres south of the Little Sand Fire near the confluence of First Fork Creek and the Piedra River by two heavy helicopters, crews and engines.

Lightner Fire:  Due to rugged terrain and high temperatures, firefighters were unable to get the fire fully contained today. The 90-acre fire is estimated to be 75% contained. The fire will be turned over to a Type 4 Incident Commander on Saturday. One 20-person crew, one tactical water tender, and one safety officer will continue working on strengthening the containment line and extinguishing hot spots.
